Slipped tendon? Please help!

How did your chick do with treatment? I have a friend who has a chick with a dislocated hip joint right now.

I had a chick (a little under a week old probably) that (I think) ruptured their tendon almost a week ago after getting trampled by their "mom" on accident. (There was bruising on the interior of hock joint all the way up to their hip.) The leg was floppy and I initially thought the joint was out of place, but all seemed fine (except the floppy leg and the chick was absolutely not moving it.)

I brought the chick inside and it hung out with me. I splinted the leg with vet wrap, is all I did, to shorten the tendon, in case it wasn't completely ruptured.

I tried putting it back with mom, (it's not a big enough chick to have trouble hopping to the food and water) but "mom" didn't like the vet wrap. So We hung out for a few days. Then, one day I had the chick in my hoodie pocket, and it jumped out and it turned into a completely new chick! It was so happy to be in there and for whatever reason "mom" didn't care about the vet wrap anymore.

So now, a few days later, "floppy leg" is actually looking like it can articulate it a bit, the chick will kind of put weight on it and is way better than I ever expected it to get (I thought I was prolonging the inevitable--might still be) but hopefully there is hope for your friends' chick, too.

Thank you so much! What a hopeful story about your little one! That is wonderful! The chick that my friend has seems to have a will to live, so I told her to splint the legs, as I would split with splay legs, so that the leg is brought forward and held in the right spot. I think it will take a few days but I am hopeful that the chick may be okay. It seems to be doing okay otherwise!
