Ugh. This poor little love. I do not want to put this baby down. I take my chickens to the vet only with issues. I had a chicks last year that must’ve injured itself at about 5 weeks, leg dangling. Had vet put down. Then one of my favorite roosters died the day he looked sick. Necropsy was inconclusive. Recently I purchased a chick and it ended up with wry neck. So for 2 weeks I’ve been giving vitamins from the vet. And now this. This vet is going to be like WTH is going on at your house!!!???
This is one of my favorite chicks. I’d say about last week I noticed it walking strange. I noticed the feathers on the bottom side of its feet growing really wrong. The we’re coming out of the bottom edge of the foot and curling/growing towards the inside of the foot. I though this was odd, must be the cause of discomfort and every other day I plucked some. I didn’t want to stress it out doing it all at once.
Anyway it does seem to all better but still off. So I brought it in and washed the foot. This time though I got some feathers wet up by its leg and... oh no... how did I miss this! My heart is broken. It seems so solid. I’m assuming it’s a slipped tendon. It does not want to move at all. I hear chickens don’t show pain. It doesn’t seem off in any other way at this point except for a little hobble.
How can I fix this? Can I fix this? If I bring it to the vet will he advise me to put it down? 😢 My heart is breaking. I feel like it’s always something.

Sorry no one replied to your thread. How is your chick doing?
Well I was trying to decide what to do. Vet and/or put down... and 2 days or so after this post I found it stuck head first in our pvc feeder. It had suffocated and died. So so sad. This baby was going to be a stunner too. I don’t know if it’s leg had anything to do with it getting stuck but I feel terrible. I went back to the chick feeders for a few more weeks.

Very sorry for your loss, we do apologize no one was able to respond sooner, we hope you will continue to use BYC in the near future.
