Slow/bloody zip, can I do anything?

Next time Don't apply water directly to the egg or wrap it in a wet paper towel because that dries the inside out even more.
Oh no, I didn't know that. I only wrapped it to carry it to the bathroom where I took him out. He is walking around but has a hard time keeping his head up and keeping his balance. He still has a few hard spots that aren't fluffing. I'm impressed that he made it as far as he did alone, poor little guy was like cement. I guess next time I need to up the humidity a ton more at lockdown.

He is newly hatched he will not have steady legs for bit, my wee silkie cross chick was days before she walked / hopped along in a steady manner, she is a week now and flitting about everywhere!

Your wee fella will get his sea legs!

Can't wait to see updated photos!

You'll find they all flop about quite a bit for the first while - they've literally never supported themselves with this muscles. I'd always done broody hatches and this was my first in an incubator. Thought I was going to have kittens when that first chick pipped and albumen started leaking out the pip.

Made her a rescue hole and gave her overnight to get started zipping, but when pip number two made it out and I could see her trying to break shell, but not twisting, I knew I'd have to do something.

She was both head over wing and foot over head. No way she was getting out on her own. My one problem child...

Here's Seven, the lonely little one. Nobody else even pipped but I'll leave them in a few days. I haven't seen him poop yet, that can't be good, right? Also, he walks a bit like a penguin. I gave him a little Sav a chick electrolyte water and he's had a second bath to help his fluff. He still has some hard spots but they can wait. If he makes it I'm going to get him some baby banty buddies.

Poor lil bubs - have any internally pipped? I had heaps dead in the shell that never made it to pip this to me around. They were all shipped eggs, but my hatch rate was pretty horrible. Out if 22 set, 12 made it to lockdown and 7 made it to hatch, then had the one that died a week after hatch, but had been poorly the whole time. Thankfully, the remaining 6 are in good health.

I don't think any internally pipped. :( I had 15 shipped, 3 never developed, 2 red ringed early, 2 stopped right before lockdown. I had 8 in lockdown and egg number Seven looks like the only hatcher, poor little fluff. He's very chatty with happy chirps but I know he has to be lonely. If nobody has pipped by morning I'll find him friends tomorrow. Shipped eggs are too tricky for me haha. I'm sorry yours was rough but happy you got some healthy peeps.

He looks good, how many days eggs incubating?

Oh sorry I see today is day 22, did u wait 24hrs after starting incubation to count day 1?

At any rate they can take up to 25 days to hatch. Another case of being patient sitting on your hands 🤗.

Yes to the 24 hour question. 😊 I moved the other eggs to a backup incubator. There are still no pips, but one that maybe internally pipped although it looks too low. ☹ I'm picking up two Japanese bantam chicks in a few hours for Seven. He's a very feisty fluff this morning.
