Slow Growing Broilers

Breed them.... with each other? They are a cross (hybrid) and will not breed true.... as far as longevity, others will need to chime in here

Are you talking about colored broilers like the Rangers? Either way, you can't breed them, but if you're talking about the "slow growing" broilers at McMurray, I could be wrong but I think they're just Cornish X's. McMurray likes to be creative to sell more birds- for example, you can get "Cornish Game Hens," but if you read the fine print, they are Cornish X's, and they tell you to butcher them a few weeks earlier. The "frying pan special" should also be called "We have these extra leghorn roosters that no one wants."

I have talked to over 1/2 dozen people that have held back the colored broilers from J&M and hatched the following year. Some of these people bred the CB back to CB and others held back the CB hens and crossed them with a dual purpose roo. All of them have been very happiny with the results. I will be tryiing this myself next year. Hopefully I will have the same results.
