We have five hens who are just a couple months shy of a year old. We've been consistently getting 3-5eggs a day, averaging 4. We recently went away for 11 days of which they were watched by friends but didn't have nearly as much acsess to pasture (although they have a very good sized run that they always have access to). When we got back I was suprised to find that they hadn't eaten much of their feed......I was sure they'd be chowing through it since stuck in the run and not ranging. Then to discover the next day home only ONE egg!! We had never had less than 3. Since then we've been getting 2 or 3. I asked my friends who were collecting while we were gone and they both mentioned only collecting one egg one day each and then an avg of 3. Now that I'm paying more attention I don't think my cochin has been laying at all (since she lays a small egg, it's fairly easy to tell). What do you think could be going on??? They are all acting just fine....is it a nutrition thing? Did they not like the feed we gave them? were they missing something/depressed from not having access to the yard?? They're too young to be entering a molt right??
Any thoughts would be appreciated, thank you!
