Slowing down in winter....yeah right!

Our three girls (Henny Penny, Princess and Blackie) have not really missed a beat and we are still getting three eggs a day. They free range...on what is nothing much more than snow at the moment on our place in Colorado.

We had a standard light globe running most of the night to keep them warm, and just switched ato a red heat light....but nothing much seems to have happened.

Maybe the egg size is getting smaller...

Someone made the comment that in Australia eggs are not kept in the fridge at the supermarket! This is very true...in fact i thought it was crazy to keep them in the fridge here in the USA when i arrived from Oz.....but not as crazy as not liking vegemite on toast (or just about anything on toast for that matter).

Ahhh.....i would give anything for some good (canned) baked beans on toast (along side my farm fresh eggs of course) for breakfast!

Frankenchick I am going to try that egg casserole, maybe throw some sausage in there too, sounds good!!
Funny to find this post as not ten minutes ago on another thread I mentioned the same thing --- that we have more eggs than we can eat!!! Cholesterol will soon be a problem in my household, lol!! I read DomRomer say something about people not liking fresh eggs...I offered to bring a dozen to the computer guy at work and when he asked his wife she said she could only eat the white store bought kind!!!

I'm still getting 2 eggs a day from my geriatrics! A banty and RIR egg. Coop isn't heated.....yet. I ordered the flat panel coop heater and we will install it next week. Temps are going up this weekend, thank goodness. Its been in the low teens the last couple of days and the girls have probably been cold, even in the closed coop. The heater will help the almost worthless Little Giant water heater with the ice buildup.

2 to 2 1/2 doz a day now. Luckily I have some customers and friends, that are keeping my fridge from over flowing as I'm not the biggest egg eater. I do love going out and collecting, the girls all seem so proud of themselves and there is just something about gathering fresh warm eggs.
