Sluggish, Possibly Bloated Duck Question

3bird very sorry your sick with the flu. If at all possible I’d take Martha to the vet.

We have a call in to the vet--they open at 8 today, but I don't think our vet is in on Saturday. Is this, in your opinion, potentially a case for the emergency animal hospital (not an avian specialist)?

Are there things we can do on our end to help ease any problems she may be having. we're not eager to house a second duck indoors, but obviously we'll do what we need to. Someone had suggested a warm bath to swim in could help. We're also headed for some cold, snowy weather over the next week, and I want to make sure is warm and comfortable. Thoughts?

Thanks again for everyone's help!

A Vet will have to drain the fluid and do X-ray. Plus antibiotics.

I totally get that if fluid is the issue, we need vet care--and, believe me, you never have to convince us to go see the vet (she has files on 5 of our 7 ducks, and has seen 4 of them in her office!). As I've said from the start, however, we may have trouble seeing the vet until perhaps as late as Tuesday, which is why we are looking for anything we can do in the interim (both in terms of observation/examination and treatment/care).

We so appreciate everyone's help and suggestions! Thanks!

Couldn't find specific for water fowl but this does include other poultry besides chickens.

After reading this I think it's up to you to decide if you want to wait or go today.

Wow! Very helpful link! Thank you.

So when I reported that nothing had changed this morning, that was from observing Martha on the camera. When Karen actually went out and opened the door to the run, Martha flew down from the duckhouse, led the charge out the door and is now happily foraging, eating ice and generally being a goof with her pals. She appears 100% normal (for her...lol). We were waiting to feed a little later in case the vet could see us first thing, so we'll observe and report back.
