In the Brooder
Sorry, i should have mentioned it is not winter in my country at the moment. It is summer in South Africa. We have had a few rainy days, so I am waiting for a nice hot day to clean everything before we build the new roosting area. I could not go to the coop to take photos in the evening due to the rain. I am so sad that Pixel will have to be rehomed. We live in the suburbs and my neighbours didnt like my noisy Orpington. He is now happy on my aunts farm and Pixel will have to go there when he gets noisy.Agreed.
I would not bathe chickens in winter and then let them run around wet. Check your birds at night with a flashlight for mites/lice. Check around vent and belly. If they have them, treat them with a permethrin spray or powder. Getting chickens soaking wet, especially in winter, can kill them quick. They have a hard time maintaining their body temperature when they are wet.
