Well I have three little pullets right now, and they each have different little personalities and I am loving it! I have family with farms, but this is my personal first time having chickens. Since it is still freezing cold and winter in Michigan, these ladies are living it up as house pets lol. They stay in the cage most of the day with a morning and afternoon "free range" time when I let them wander around and explore the living room and leave "treats" laying around for them to find. The only drawback on this, is having to follow them around and clean up the poopies with Lysol wipes, but my kids don't mind doing that chore since they earn the privelidge of petting the chicks for doing it. My little ladies are so friendly! The oldest is a Silver Laced Wyandotte named Dixie. She is a bit more wary of physical affection and people hands, but will warm up once she is confident you mean no harm and give her time to come to you on her own terms. I can't wait to see her final coloring. I find myself stalking all the Wyandotte threads for pics. All the variations are SO gorgeous!! The next in line is a Welsummer named Roxanne, and she is a shoulder bird. Actually, she prefers to sit on your head, and will climb or fly up there repeatedly no matter what you are doing. She loves attention and is very content to be stroked and hand fed. Finally, the baby is an ISA brown named Sugar. She likes to snuggle in warm hands and fall asleep. She isn't afraid to lead the way into new corners or to explore new perches. People are here to serve her, and she isn't jumpy at all. In fact, when she is out you have to watch your step because she feels that it's your job to get out of her way, not the other way around. Those are my feather babies, but I also have 4 guinea pigs, 6 fish, a turtle, and 5 kids(age 22mo, 3yo, 6yo, 9yo, and 15yo).

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you have house chickens! Good way to get the kids to do some house cleaning. Are you sure you are going to make the chicks live outside. The Silver Laced Wyandottes are beautiful birds, I am sure Dixie will be quite lovely when she is fully feathered, make the other girls jealous. In case you haven't seen it, you might want to check out the Michigan state thread for neighbors https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/697050/michigan-thread-all-are-welcome

Your babies are adorable!! I think you should keep them as permanent house pets. Lots of people do! Here is an active thread on house chickens and there is even a couple house Turkeys too!....
