So I ordered 3 SLW's from Ideal and believe it or not yesterday I noticed only one has a "rose comb". Not that I'm into the breed for breeding sake but why would this happen? It seems to me that this breed is pretty common. Why would it be so hard to have all SLW's with rose combs?
My red frizzles have black in them but I didn't really care about that either.
My GLW's all have rose combs. I just can't understand why anyone would perpetuate such and obvious flaw.

It's because the hatcheries hatch for quantity, not quality. In Wyandottes straight combs can occur, but those birds you don't want to use in your breeding program.

Thanks, the reason I said believe or not is they're 20 wks old. I don't intend to breed them. I just keep them for the diversity.
