SLW's

My SLW's came from Meyers Hatchery also. I think they are very pretty. Folks that stop by always notice them and think they are very eye catching. I dont know about show quality...but very pretty to say the least. The 3 that i bought from meyers all have the pretty rose combs.

I have owned five SLWs and one GLW from Ideal. A couple of the SLWs looked pretty good and the GLW was really nicely laced for hatchery stock. Sadly, I lost all three of the original SLWs and the GLW to reproductive issues (internal laying). The other two SLWs I sold together, so no idea what will happen with them, however, one was nicely laced and the other one's lacing was really nonexistent over the chest area. The body type was good on three of them and average on the rest. One of the SLWs was single-combed.

Being tired of the SLWs from the hatchery looking not even close to the standard is why I originally started on my search for SLWs that look like a wyandotte is supposed to look. They are not easy to find, nor are they or eggs if you can even find them cheap. I did finally get some hatching eggs and mine now look like a wyandotte is supposed to!! The pictures that the hatcheries post or print are most often not even related to the birds they are selling. I think the truth in advertising rules should apply to them and they only be allowed to use pictures of their own birds.....then people would know what they are ordering.

I agree. A large proportion of their customers must wonder why the birds they purchase are not laced & do not grow up to look like the birds advertied.

It would be interesting to see how it would affect their sales numbers. I'm sure on some breeds it would affect them alot.

On certain colour patterns it might....perhaps it might push them into raising the quality of their breeding stock. Though people are not as heavily involved with poultry as we might be, would tend to like easy, & buying from a mail order hatchery is easy. Perhaps people would buy something else instead. After all, brown leghorns are pretty & one can't go so very far wrong with that colour.

These are 2 of my laced Wyandottes from Meyers at about 21 weeks. I'm not liking the SLW combs. A bit too pointy and not so much rose. But, then, I'm really only interested in breeding GLW and these appear true to breed IMHO.

Well all mine look to skinny and the tails are 45 degrees. I'm just really disappointed that they are so far off the mark. The colorings are good though on GLW doesn'nt have as much gold. My blk austra's don't look as full either. They weren't my first choice and I'm planning on ordering some Java from a museum but they won't be show quality but as long as they are pure Javas. I also want some Buckeyes.
