Hi, just got my chickens on March 4, they were 2 days old. I did a lot of research first, so, I got RI Reds, 4 Barred Plymouth Rocks and 4 Buff Orpingtons. It was my understanding, after all of my reading that they don't usually start laying until they are 6mos. Some have started laying last week, not sure which ones, they have been on the smaller size but the shell is a beautiful brown color and not soft at all. Today one (or 2) of the girls laid a half soft egg, half membrane half shell, the other was all membrane, perfect egg shape but about the size of a quarter. in total in the last week we have gotten 6 eggs that are perfect and these 2. Is something wrong, especially since they are laying at 4 months?

17 weeks is early but not unheard of. Pullet eggs are always small. Have you provided oyster shell in a separate container or switched to layer feed?
Some of the others may take a while to start laying but you may want to mix your grower feed with layer feed and give them some oyster shell.
Without extra calcium the eggs will be OK for a while until they use up all the available calcium in the medullary bone and then they won't.
