Small and ugly.

I have 6 chickens of which only 5 are laying. I have three chickens who lay lovely eggs in both color and size. One EE lays ugly little speckled eggs that are almost always a little deformed. I have one hatchery EE who lays ugly grey speckled small and long eggs.
Since they have only been laying for no more than two months I was wondering if maybe it is just taking them a little longer to get their egg making skills in order, or will they just always lay ugly eggs?

Sometimes it takes a while for them to get it right. Other times it is genetic and will always lay that way. Keep an eye out because these deformed eggs may get stuck (not to scare you, it is a very small chance) depending how bad they are.

I am willing to bet they are just new at this and will start to get better with practice.

I sure hope so. Today one was half grey and half olive/blue and flat on one side and wrinkled. Too bad the pretty chicken on the outside doesn't determine the eggs on the inside.

They may also need more calcium. Try offering free-choice oyster shell. This might help because it makes the egg less plyable during the laying process and gets less "wrinkles".
