We're trying our hand at raising chickens. (Still, or again) We're on our 4th flock (in as many years). The first one was gorgeous. Raise deck, hardy board enclosed. put a heat lamp too close to the hay nests and it burned to the ground, flock enclosed. We're city people and had to do some mental adjustments. So, three years and a few flocks later, we settled on a half dozen mixed layers: A Wellsummer, Black astralorp, Black Sussex, Americana, Silver and Gold laced Wyndotts, ( as close as I can spell them) bought at 4 or 5 months and half of which are, now, laying. (Our previous flock of 50+ with roosters and incubators, plus a half dozen Pekin Ducks, pretty well, broke us in, but curbed our appetites. I look at it as our "Chicken Crash Course" from which we graduated with, maybe, a "C" average. Settling in with the new flock still offers some new encounters and challenges. I, actually, am here to tell about Wendy Warrior, but, I guess, that's for another post
