My chickens have been laying for about 5 weeks now, but their eggs are still small. Is this normal?

I have an odd problem about this as well. My Easter Egger Ethel laid her first egg and it was small. Three eggs later she laid a normal size. Then today, another small one. I hope other people chime in here to help. :-)

New layers lay small eggs
The larger 'normal sized ones' may well have two yolks, another typical new layer thing.
The egg will eventually get larger, but can take several months to do so.

New layers can be quite goofy acting, they don't know what they are doing at first and can be confused and anxious, it can take up to a month or so before they get it all figured out. Putting some fake eggs or golf balls in the nest might help show them where to lay. They may scratch around in the nests for weeks before laying. Meanwhile, eggs everywhere, some of them can be rather funky looking, soft or thin shelled, huge double yolked eggs.

Thank you for the help! My 4 girls have been acting weird but only one is laying so far. they are five months old (2 EE, 2 RR). One of my RR is fully developed and running around the yard like a crazy bird. She seems confused and has been following me everywhere, which she never did before. I hope she's next to lay so she can go back to being a normal sweet girl.
