Getting pure quality araucanas will be very expensive. They go for about $50 a piece.

Gotcha Sounds like you have it figured out. I’m consulting my list of chicken breeds for more duel purpose breeds to recommend for you.

Wyandottes, Chanteclers, Buckeyes, New Hampshires, Delawares, Sussexes, are all I can think of as duel purpose at the time.

going to go with the cream legbars, welsumer and barred rock's.

Looking on mpc for cream legbars and their picture shows the chicks and eggs with 2 different color birds. any clue why? I though it would be a blue hen, not red as the picture shows for the day old chicks

I don’t know why they are different colors. It could be that the day old chicks are from a different line then the hatching eggs that they sell.

If you want dual purpose, stay away from black/dark plumage for broilers. They are THE WORST to pluck/clean.
