Hi, although I’ve read backyard chickens often I’ve never joined. My flock is outgrowing my chicken coop and the yard and I need to keep them busy. I have 10 chickens various breeds and they’re mostly free range but when they’re in their yard they get kind of bored so I’m looking for ideas for things to keep them busy.
I also have chickens that like to lay their eggs in the woods in under bushes. I keep them in until about 1 o’clock in the afternoon and then let them out to free range. Does anybody know when a chicken usually lays it’s eggs and if that’s a long enough time to get them used to the nests.

There’s no set time of day for laying eggs, but it takes 25ish hours to reset and do it again.
So for example today at 9 am
Tomorrow around 10
The next day around 11
Then you’ll hit a day where the sun is going down so the hen might skip that day and start again early the next morning.

*All of this is give or take
