small scale watering option for inside the henhouse? MESS

We have to get something figured out as well. The hulls are jamming the waterer and getting soaked to boot. I never knew something as small as a 3 wk old seabright could sling hulls 3 ft behind his little self! I am going to try putting it on blocks, and for the coop we will for SURE use thoe pop bottle waterers!!!!

Our adult chickens will use them. Of course, they have to be filled more frequently. We have larger waterers, but use the small ones as extras or if we have to separate some from the flock.

I use them for adults too, you could put the 2L bottles on them if you flatten in one side a bit...ours came in a 6 pack so I put a few on each side of the run...with 40+ half grown chicks it takes them about 12 hrs to empty most of them and we live in the desert, so I'm sure they would work o/n for 4 hens.

Plus I just keep a bucket full of extra bottles, fill at the faucet, then trade out fulls for empties...not hard...I like them because they don't seem to get filled w/ junk so quickly as the regular waterers. What a concept, CLEAN water!

Also make sure the waterer is as much as possible out of the main traffic pattern (where they go in/out around popdoor, and where they jump down off the roost) and that you've made some sort of arrangement so they can't perch atop the waterer.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
