Small wire for runs + snow???

Pat,

Yeah, I've seen those...but that would require me taking down 10+ runs and re-doing the whole thing....plus, I like to be able to stand up & walk around without hunching over in the runs...so does my husband and he's over 6' tall...

We get at least 4 feet of snow per year--sometimes MUCH more if it drifts...which it commonly does because the wind comes over the pass and we're the first house on the Okanogan side...

Thanks!

i think u were need a rougher roof up there. btw does your chicken like the snow?. that is alot of snow.
i see your set up but no chicken they are smart to stay in lol

My roof is very reinforced for our snow load--and metal. The angle makes the snow pretty much slide right off...and it's fully insulated on all walls, the floor and the roof. The chickens don't seem to mind the snow most of the time....and actually in that last picture, you can just barely see some of my Light Sussex still out in the snow! You can also see my Sebbies in their pen a Muscovy peeking out of it's shelter in another pen.

Here's a better picture of the pitch of my roof....obviously from summer time...

Hubby says the large coop has an 8 1/2 degree slope.

Here is a shot of the overhang--you can see how closely spaced the supports are (16" centers):
