I have 9 chicks. 1 Buff Orp, 2 Lavender Orps, 2 Blue-Laced Wyandottes, 3 Easter Eggers and 1 Cinnamon Queen. I'm concerned because the 2 lavender orpingtons don't seem to be developing at the same rate as the others. We got them all at the same time (3 weeks ago today), and all the others have some sort of a distinct tail where these don't.

I'm also worried because they don't seem to be taking care of their feathers (see pics). This is our first time with chicks and our first time with lavender orpingtons so I'm not sure if it's just the breed, even though the buff orpington seems fine. They look like they're acting normal, eating and drinking just fine.

Also, full disclosure. I cleaned their tub last night  they mess it up quick..

Lavender Orpingtons can carry what's called a shredder gene. It causes their feathers to look ratty. Nothing wrong with them, but they always look unkempt.

Make sure you are feeding a good fresh ration. That's about all you can do.
