I don't want a smart meter. I'll keep my old dumb one. too much tech that knows waaay too much about us. Agenda 21 is NOT your friend. And while we're on the subject, what about chem-trails? Our goverment needs to be voted out to the very last man/woman standing and start over.

The watching what you do thing has some merit but they already can tell if you are running grow lights.

The danger thing is a joke... Its relative.... Its a one watt max transmitter that just transmits every now an then. Your wifi is twice that an constant. A kids walki talki is 5 watts. Radio the truck driver next to you on the highway is using is 5 watts factory but most are set at 30 watts an many are well over 500 watts. WDIV-TV Channel 4 Detroit broadcasts at 872,000 watts

Like how much power you are using? They read your meter anyways...

I can think of worse things to worry about...

I like our system. Our two meters are read via the power lines. No meter reader coming into our backyard.

We have a dual-fuel furnace, LP and electric. Electric heat and hot water are metered separately and charged at half price (around 5 cents per kWh) because they can control them and shut them off during peak demand. When they send a signal to switch off electric heat the furnace automatically falls back to propane. The discounted electric rate is cheaper than burning propane right now.

This is the funniest thing I've seen in long time. I love the overly-dramatic tone of voice "They KNOW when you use your electric toothbrush".

If you don't like it, get your electricity from somewhere else. You're buying their product, they do have something to say about how they monitor it.

Yes once you buy something its yours but your saying when we buy something the company can track our use on that product. The only time they can track use of something is if you sign a TOS.I only sign a TOS for my MMORPGs not for other products I buy/pay for.
Does nabisco or kraft track what you do with all their products when you use it/buy it.

I didn't say "how you use it".
It's a 'pay-per-use' service. They want to know how much you use, and when you use it. Broadband companies do this. Internet subscription services do this. Gyms do this. I swipe a card at work to get into my building, so they monitor my activity. Anything you buy a transport ticket for -buses, airplanes. The new passports have a tracking device. It's part of life today. Get off the grid, and you won't be tracked.

Sounds like tin-foil hat time.

It's radio waves, no different from wi-fi, cell phones, walkie talkies, the your weather radio, your GPS, or even your alarm clock that sincs up to atomic time.
