Smart rooster, dumb hens?

Animals evolve a flee/freeze response to potential danger. The expended energy it takes to flee every potential threat must be balanced by the perceived risk of staying and watching the predator who may not be interested in them. This is why a rabbit often freezes and watches you cross the yard...don't get any closer and they often won't run. This saves an hour or more's worth of food it would have to eat to regain the lost energy of prematurely fleeing. Perhaps the chickens are doing this as well, except that my Buff should know better by now-having been in the "jaws of death" b/c of not fleeing...I tend to go with the people who say "dumb chickens" on this one.
