I thought the most intelligent humans are the ones that go out of their way to let you know they're smarter than you

If they have to do that then they aren't very intelligent.
It isn't intelligent at all to waste time on a point if you're sure your take on it is correct, in fact that would be the complete opposite of it.

Well, as I used to say at meetings where 'negative' comments were frowned upon and positive correctness valued above honesty and facts;
Lets all move forward but in the opposite direction to the direction we were going in.
