I'm going to build a coop about a 4'x 6' and I'm thinking about using the SmartSide 4x8 panels. I built a utility shed about 10 years ago and used it for the doors and used vinyl siding on rest and its holding up good. Another shed I built about 20 years ago I used plywood for the doors and its starting to rot, but it is older. My only concern about using it is that now and then I'll want to wash it out so how will it hold up. I'm going to paint it on the inside and I would only wash it out on a hot day so maybe it will be ok.
Recently I built a dog house out of shipping pallets and I may use them to build the coop. I can get pallets from work, but I'm only allowed to get broken ones so it takes quite few to get enough. Its also a lot of work sawing them apart with a sawz-all. Then when I rip and cut the boards I got to work around the nails, but its fun and free. Here's pics of the house and my dog. He's a stray that 's been around for about two years-neighbors and I have been feeding him. He finally got gentled up enough to pet him and carry to the vet for rabies shot- it took a long time. He lays out in the cold rain so I thought I would build him a house, but he hasn't gone it yet- maybe some day.
