Hi there,
My sussex broody is sitting on araucana eggs, and has been very clumsy. Quite a few eggs have broken over the course of the setting, but she made it to day 20 (today) with 6 eggs ready to go. When i checked this morning tho, another egg has been broken. I don't just mean cracked, i mean well and truly smashed! Lots of shell missing, a small tear in the membrane and leak/blood stains tho their is no active leaking now. I have wrapped it in tissue and put it in the incubator as the chick is still moving. Is it likely to survive at this stage with a torn membrane and all? I could see the yolk, i don't know if it has been ruptured or not. I've patched cracks with wax before no problems but this is a whole other ballgame! I'm keen to save it if possible, as while away for the day last weekend my incubator spiked to 40 deg and all but 5 of my 24 chicks died at hatch, malpositioned from heat stress:-(
