Smelled something rotten... He made it! Quail Hatching!

My eggs were due to hatch yesterday, and there is a nasty odor permeating from my incubator.

I figured I'd go through and try and figure out which were the rotten ones. I sifted out several that were extra nasty, some that had never started and some that had quit early on with mere blood rings.

But then I found this...

So needless to say, I think perhaps these guys are going to be a few more days. Hopefully some will hatch. I think that guy there might actually make it since I didn't nick any blood vessels and he's been moving about for us inside the incubator for hours since I opened the shell. I did make sure my humidity was high to try and prevent him from drying out.

You may want to wrap it up in a moist papertowel.

I just did so, and won't open the incubator up again unless absolutely necessary. I'll keep everyone posted.

yeah i second the wet paper towel those membranes dry out really easily

Texas A&M are supposed to be the 16-17 day incubation cycle, aren't they?

I'm hatching Coturnix today, too. I bought Texas A&Ms, Jumbo Browns and Tuxedo eggs from AussieSharon. Today's day 16 and I have a few pips.
