After scrambling 3 of my girls' egss this AM, I noticed they had a distinct odor, not "egg-y" like usual. Its not skunky but is very hard to describe. Maybe a little metallic or sulpher-y?? The taste is also a little off, not so much that they're inedible but different enough that I notice.

I threw out the first batch of scrambled eggs, thinking the girls must've just gotten into something weird. The second batch turned out the same way, though. I smelled the raw eggs before cooking them and they smelled fine. I cooked them in the same pan I always use.

I'm curious: what could make their eggs smell like this? Could it be an indication of illness?

Edited to add: they're not on any medicine. I don't put any AcV in their water, but did put Nutri-drench in their water for 2 days. Could that affect the taste of the eggs??

After looking at the ingredients in poultry Nutri-drench, I'd believe that it could alter the taste of the eggs.

There are trace minerals in it (minerals are notorious for having an 'off' taste), and it has Methionine, which is an amino acid that contains Sulfer.

I wouldn't worry about it overly much, it'll pass.

I don't eat the eggs from my birds at all. I think they smell too.

I tried eating one and I really didn't like it. Mine eat Manna Pro Layer pellets. No meds, few treats, nothing added to their (county) water.

What do you do with them? Do you buy eggs? If the feed makes the eggs taste bad, why feed it to them? Just a little confused.

I think my home chicken eggs taste way better and a lot less eggy. I don't know if its because they are way fresher or what but I much prefer mine to store bought.

X2. I also think the same. Nothing compares to fresh eggs. I fed my girls Purina plus and I add sea kelp sprinkles and red pepper.

I just went through the same thing. Only I know what made my eggs taste bad, it also made my butter taste bad. I had 2 rotten lemons in my fridge and didn't get them thrown out in time. Are your eggs straight from the coop or have they been refrigerated? If so , it could be you have something rotten lurking in the fridge too.
