Smelly incubator coffee cup chicks

Yes, out of the 32 I had in the incubator, 8 are Marans and I have not been able to candle them. A few are Marian blends and I couldn’t candle those either. As a newbie there were definitely a few I put a ?? On as I was not sure if I could detect a developing chick in them.

These two yolkie babies are so loud! They never stop crying...they are warm and I am droppering them electrolytes every 30 minutes or so. They have not noticed the small amount of crumble. I wish they would save their energy and rest!

I will try to get a pic of the unhatched eggs. One hatched at 2:30 and has a hairthin attachment to her egg and is dragging around the incubator. One egg is zipped and has been f0r over 12 hours but has not completed the zip. I do not want to open the incubator!

Thank you all! This post is long- I apologize.
Some chicks are loud, my truffles was loud even in the egg.

when did they hatch? Saying their not eating, they usually wont eat (and dont need it) after 48 hours or so from hatch, because their absorbing the yolk still.

Well it’s been a rough 15 hours. Decided to assist the 3 eggs that had pipped or partially zipped because their membrane was super dry. 2 had died, and it was so sad as they were huge and perfect. I feel sad that I didn’t try to help them sooner.

One was still alive and I gently removed the majority of the shell top and some outer membrane and popped her back in the incubator. She hatched about 30 minutes later and looks good today.

Since no one was pipped I removed the rest of my eggs (minus the marans as I can’t candle them), and tried to candle the 5 left. 2 looked weird, 3 looks like they had a big air sac or even two egg sacs. I did not see movement.

I ended up gently pipping them in the air sac and gave them a big smell. No smell so they are back in the incubator with the ???? Marans.

Anyone have experience with marans hatching slower then other chicken breeds? Seems strange that the whole batch would not be good, picked them up from a local breeder so no transport and they were freshly laid.

The coffee cup babies are still alive! They never fluffed and look like dinosaurs but are drinking in their own and eating yolk hungrily.

All in all 11 out of 32, 7 looking excellent.
