Smilies, Images, BBcode, OH My!

Hey Friends,

A few notes on BBcode:

1) BBcode is the most popularly used method for posting things like smilies, links, images, etc. in a forum.
2) One of the ways we keep this forum SUPER FAST is by keeping a happy medium between too many and too few bells / whistles. BBcode may be take a TINY bit more effort on this board, but it will be paid back many fold in performance.
3) We have installed bbcode easy buttons which allows you to select a button to automatically get the bbcode generated for smilies, bold, links, images, quotes, etc.


How Do You Use BBcode: Here are examples using the image bbcode:

URLs:
All URLs automatically turn into links: www.BackYardChickens.com requires no code.

If you want to link text to a website, do the following:

1) Type the text
2) Highlight the text with my mouse
3) Click the "Word-Link" button (the text will be wrapped with the code for a link)
4) Replace the text "YourLinkGoesHere" with your link.


Images:

1) Type in the image URL, something like this: https://www.backyardchickens.com/images/BYC-chicken.gif
2) Highlight the entire URL
3) Click on the "Img" button. This will wrap the img BBcode around your image URL
4) Your image link should be between the two back to back brackets, like this:

...I get the image...but are you saying that in order to use the neat emotes at BYC that we have to copy them to our computer>then upload to say photobucket>then each time we want to use them we use the BB image code for the image URL???

Dipsy Doodle Doo - Currently, the image code for signatures is turned off. I'll talk to CC about turning it on, but in my other forums I've received complaints from people with dialup that it slows things down when everyone has images in their signatures which are in every post.

DLH - by "emotes" do you mean smilies? I need to add a mod that will allow CC to add and manage new smilies. I don't want to add too many new features at once, because if there is a problem and things slow down for everyone I may not know which modification did it.

In the meantime, if you want to use the emotes at BYC, you can use the image URL for that smiliey and post it in here like any other image. No download required. For example, right click on any of these and get the image url:

Works for me:

I simply took the url, highlighted it, and hit the Img button.

Your teapot thingy works for me, Becky.
To make it work, the url needs to be in between the 2 img tags instead of at the end like it is below, I think.
