You can hit the Esc key on your keyboard. This will stop all of the animations on the page you are viewing. Try it on these smilies.

YES!!! Brilliant suggestion! If you could only get people to then USE IT!!

If you dont like how someone spells..DONT read their posts..
pretty simple if you ask me...
No need to try to make people feel bad.

The comment was not directed at any one in particular. I would personally LOVE the utility of a spell checker on this forum. It's rather inconvenient to have to go look up the correct spelling of a word when writing a post or swap it out with a synonym when I'm unsure of the spelling, but I do it.

It just occurs to me that when tools are available to be used to improve effective communication, it's unfortunate when people don't avail themselves of them. I see that in my email inbox all the time and it makes me cringe. It's not that there's anything wrong with misspellings themselves, it's just rather telling of the author when there are misspellings when a spell checker IS available, that was my point. A spell checker would be a wonderful tool to have, certainly more useful than smilies. I would use it all the time.

There were suggestions about Firefox. People that don't bother to check their spelling probably wouldn't bother to use Firefox. I also want someone to invent an apostrophe checker!

No actually, you're very wrong...
If someone chooses not to use a spell checker it is not telling anything about the author at all... nothing.
Please, dont delude yourself that you know anything about me at all...
I would not use a spell checker for a chicken forum... so what exactly are you saying about me then??

Actually, what IS "telling" for me is when i see people put down others spelling and grammar...
And i'm going to drop it at that for now....

I would not use a spell checker for a chicken forum... so what DOES that say about me??

That you're lazy, you don't care about conventions, you're extremely defensive, you're putting down the chicken forum (it doesn't deserve good spelling? It's only about chickens?) Just some guesses, but I may be wrong too.

You are.. big time.
I'd say you are a snob..that feels the need to put others down to feel better about themselves? Maybe you were picked on in school..and this is your way to feel "cool" now??
Or maybe you were always this type of person?? You know the type i mean... The type that looks down on others ... the type that thinks making snide remarks about others funny. The type of person that i try to teach my foster kids not to be...
I bet you kicked puppies too ... maybe tripped a few blind people? Do you still make fun of the "slow" kids?? Or did you grow out of that yet??
yeah... its COOL to make fun of people that dont spell as great as yourself.... you're awesome.

ETA:..OOh, and i'm not "defensive"..i'm offended!
I have a learning disability and so does my foster son that comes on here quite often. He sees these types of posts and they make him feel BAD about himself...
So, yes..i do have a problem when i come on here and see people making catty remarks about peoples spelling and such.

This is not a thread to argue about spell check.

You all know better to squabble on open forum and you also should remember that the report button is your friend.

If spelling is important to you personally, use Firefox as your web browser. The latest version has built in spell-check and will check your own posts before you submit them (although you must do the corrections yourself, it is helpful for avoiding typos).

Internet Explorer also has spellcheck software available, but you must download and install an add-on program; it's not built in like the one in Firefox is.
