I made it out to Mountain City animal auction yesterday, and found my black silkies! I bought 2 roo's and one young hen. When I went to show my my dad my new babies, one of the roosters ran into the woods and I couldn't catch him

we have a trap set now, but I don't expect to see him again. It really is a sad thing, and all my fault! I've had to separate the new ones from my chicks, they are about a months and half old. The bigger birds are pecking them. How do I stop this? And when I picked up the roo today, he threw up clear liquid. Is this normal? I'm afraid to put these with my others until they are full grown.

I am sorry about your rooster. As for the new ones it is always best to quarantine them from your others until you determine if they are sick or carrying say lice or mites. If you search on byc I am sure you can find many threads on quarantining & introducing new chickens to your flock. I personally never add any chicks with other chicks until they are the same size. You may want to post about the clear liquid in the Emergency/Disease thread to see what replies you get.

Has any one bout any chicks from poultry hollow ?

I have never order from Poultry Hollow but I think I have seen it mentioned on the Middle TN thread. You may want to ask there.

I don't have any experience with using dog shampoo. There are probably more ways than I will ever never to treat for lice and mites. Another thing that will help once you get rid of them is making sure they have an area to dust bathe in. I have read a lot about adding wood ash and DE to their dust bathing areas. Please keep us posted on how the dog shampoo works out. I am curious.

I ordered my first ducks from them. All healthy birds that did fine. Just be aware they don't breed to any SOP, and that's from their website or forums. Also, it was frustrating dealing with them because I could never get an answer from them about the price of the birds.

On their website they say their prices vary every week . All in all was it a good place to buy from ?

The shed/coop i have them in now is very dusty but im currently building a new coop nd run and will move my laying hens closer to my hosue. When i do i will prob add a lil dust bathing area for the chickens.

TNBlacktails-

Sorry I just read my reply to you and I meant to say: there are more ways to treat for lice/mites than I will ever know about. After rereading it I found my error.

My first ever attempt at incubating eggs just ended. I set 42, pulled 19, put 23 in lock down and 21 hatched. I have 6 LF BBS Orps, 14 EEs, 2 OEs.

The EEs and OEs (less 1 that was still in the incubator)

The 6 Orps

And these are my LF Buff Orps (about 2 or 3 weeks)
I did not hatch these they were a gift
