Smoky Mtn East TN

I think the hatchery used standard debeaking machine on its assorted bantams, and the now clean open wound that is resulting from necrotic beak parts and tissue parts either falling off of being eaten off by other older chicks, is the top beak stopping about a milimetor past the end of the nasel passage, were you could see the membrain just barely covering for a while, were that chick had to be rescued as woke up to rest of huge older chicks playing tug o war with this poor tiny fellow. he now loves me and waddles after me everywere if i leave his now own cage open, and the cats know not to bother him and oddly nuzzle him though under watchful eye of my collie. its wierd how friendly he is to my roomate and i and other animals and will walk under collie were knows safe or rides on my foot. i tried having him out with my parlors, and he was excited at first but lost nerve to hang with them when he ran screaming at one and they all started rolling out and then he promptly cam fluttering back to me and when i went over gate he went and bopped around by my collie who was watching over parlors (though oddly he wont herd them as seems to freak him out when they roll out so he just flanks them following along, and then later i find them all down the field). Im glad and hopeful to know even with how short his top beak is, it may grow out enough to at least cover sinus area, so not so tender for him to eat like was before it seems to have caloused, after i stopped putting ointment on (it kept it too soft and kept bleeding every time he tried to eat for a couple days, and he wouldnt eat the soft and wet food i preped for him). the tongue has seemed to heal just still pale on end, and lower beak seems to have either grown, or just looks that way cause of top bad part of beak falling or being eaten off. he seems a lot happier and eats all the time now, also playing with the ever adding and swapped out toys, loves the pets, scratches and cuddles, just odd he doesnt seem to be really noticably growing or feathering out like rest, even accounting for his younger age. he is part silkie i think, so maybe he just will stay fluffier.. hopefully he wont crow from being stunted and maimedd, and can make a decent house pet, if i keep him. my buddy is back home though now with his gf, so he has asked if he can have them back when can set them up or if i want to keep them.. i like the one which he sounds like he fell in love with from me talking about how friendly he is, as he had a pet rooster as small child, that he used to silove as house pet till his father forced him eat it.. lol thatll make a man out of you, right?

UPDATE ON MITES ! I will be dipping them again in the dog/flea shampoo mix with warm water. They seem to be growing back their feathers (they are getting fluff everywhere it was getting bare.) So this is a great solution so far to mites. NOT COMPLETELY SURE YET IT COULD JUST BE SLOWING THEM DOWN. Ill post another update on them in a week or 2 thanks !
