Smoky Mtn East TN

East TN here as well I live in a little town called Mountain City. I can be in Damascus, Va in 20 minutes and Boone, NC in around 30-35 minutes. I have raised gamefowl most of my life but I am transitioning to some farm chickens. My dad has raised rare farm chickens all of his life and I plan on getting my start hopefully at the Unifour all breed chicken show in NC this March. I would like to make some new friends

Welcome trooper man, and my game breeds layed better than any other of my or neighbors chickens, except for my leghorn x game mixes. game cock to pearl white leghorn produces sex linking and female young that lay like mother/s but hardiness ect of father and a lot quieter and less flighty and more cold hardy than pure leghorns, but eat like pure leghorns too. lol.

i had an Americana bantam slightly tear iher vent some, laying too big an egg.. put her with other inside to rest, dry off and warm up, eat more for day than get ranging (they won't go back to cage till it gets dark), and have non freezing immediately water. Well the other that had torn vent bad befor and prolapsed her insides (is fine from outside now, and acting normal aside from not attacking me), went right after and they had to be pried apart and seperated. hoping i don't have this trouble re introducing her to flock after been inside.. luckily even with the hens having tack like spurs, they are much more heavy fluffiness than actual birds. maybe i need to work on the line more for calmness, trying to not sacrifice laying and ranging abilities ect. i love watching them beat the one cat (who stalks and tries to grab for food when any bird takes flight), as they are smart and on constant alert, never had another pred even go for, besides that dang cat (i haven't "culled" him cause woman of house loves him.. the scovy beat him much worse when he goes for one of them (like geese fighting over a whole loaf of bread).

Wow, yeah I have had gamefowl my whole life but cant keep them anymore they are too much of a hassle lol. I want some easy going fowl that can mingle with each other that I can enjoy.

Odd.. as i had "retired" game cocks, and escaped game hens (a decent herding dog for the hobby farmer is invaluable!) of others (war horse, kelso, hatchet, syd tayler, sweater, ect.), were always quietest and calmest birds, after settled and socialized. well except one syd taylor hen thatd kill any roo that'd try to force his "chicken love" on her, and had to keep her seperate with my true rosecomb roo when not watching carefully.

Yeah I have had about every kind imaginable and I just got tired of having to keep everything separated.

Well then you'll love all the new types to learn about and keep as i have. have fun with being able to watch most "free range" together in bigger areas now. I love watching one get a big bug etc, then that one has to attract the others to it by making a huge fuss, then they all have to chase and try to take the bug and then make a fuss themselves to attract all others to chase all around over and under everything and try to take from them just to repeat process for a while. "Chicken. ball"

You are right! I bet it will be bunch of fun watching them grow and all the different colors.

No feathers at all, feathered "top hats", feathered feet with short thin tiny feathers or long thick huge feathers, feathered faces short and long, feathers that curl out up or completely around backwards. purple! the color purple or varying shades of "lavender", can be found in a lot of breeds now, pink or "salmon". more toes, less toes. extra spurs up to nine on sumatras i believe, no spurs. so many I'm forgetting that others more knowledgable than me may chime in with..

I am hoping to find some bantams as well. I used to have a pair of bantam spangled Cornish and they were the coolest little chickens.

Does anyone near Jamestown breed show quality\breeder quality lavender Silkies?
Right now I've got blue, black and splash, but I'd like to add a lavender pen and split off my blacks into their own pen
