snacks for doves and pigeons

Personally, if I feed peanuts, I always feed roasted. Peanuts are a member of the legume family and I believe they contain trypsin inhibitors (soybeans are a big no no to feed raw because of this). While it probably doesn't hurt if you only feed them as "treats", I always felt safer to use the roasted one. Of course you will hear some people saying that you can't feed roasted ones for whatever reason, and they had umpteen problems when they did... I personally have not had problems with roasted ones. I'm just stating what has worked in my personal experience. Nowadays I tend to stick to safflower as a treat. I've never seen a pigeon which didn't love safflower:D. Just remember not to over use any of the high fat treats, because you will quickly end up with a fat unhealthy bird.

Sunflower hearts and shelled unsalted peanuts as stated above hand fed as a treat will help make your homers especially tame (they are know to be aloof.)

I must say, while I do this and it is the best way to get my birds tame and eating from my hand, they still put up their dukes when I try to grab them lol

I bought my pigeon raw shelled unsalted peanuts and he hasn't touched them how long should I keep them in his bowl before removing them?

It takes them some time to discover how amazing and delicious they are. For my birds, sometimes it varies. I have one adult racer that I received at age 2, and she barely takes interest to them. Every once in a while I wouldn't be surprised if a pigeon here and there does not like them, but I think that is very much the exception not the rule.

Place a small pile of them near where the pigeon roosts or perches and it will discover them. Consider breaking them into smaller pieces.

I don't know about pigeons but for your dove, I would definitely break them up. They can choke on whole peanuts. I have not had any luck offering my doves greens, but they do love shredded veggies, such as carrots or zucchini. Canned or thawed frozen corn is also a hit. they like millet spray, and safflower seeds. None of then will eat mealworms.
