Snails for chicks

Do I need to smash up snails before I feed to 5 week old chicks?

How big are they? If the are the ones that are smaller than your finder nail then nah, but if you are in CA and they are the huge ones then you might want to wait a few weeks until they can eat them on their own.

Yes! They will pretty much eat anything that fits in their mouth. Worms, snails, mice, lizards, fish, bugs. The only thing I’ve seen them not want are the beetles that give off a nasty juice that predators hate.

It’s all good. Yes, anything they can fit in their mouth, just make sure to provide grit. Maybe stick to insects for now.

It got so hot here in N CA I moved them outside to secure run and coop over a week ago. They’re on dirt in shade. There’s only 3 girls and they get locked up in small coop at night. I go out at lowest temp early in the morning, let them out to the run with heat lamp if they need it.
