Snake in coop

Hey everyone , it finally happened, we lost our first chick to a snake tonight and I'm absolutely devastated... I can't stop crying ... my daughter is crying .... please tell me what I can do to stop this from happening again photo of my girl and the baby we lost

I'm sorry to say my husband had to kill it , the part it was in was our grow out pen we have for the babies to get introduced to the adults

Is that part of the pen covered? What kind of fencing are you using? Pictures of your setup may be helpful so we can help you snake proof. Even big snakes are capable of squeezing through the tiniest gaps, so you'll want to make sure everything is sealed up nice and tight.
 
Yea i will post pics tomorrow after work and we are gonna add hardware cloth around the grow out pen this weekend, we brought the babies back inside for a few days
 
Snakes come for the rodents who come for the feed and then the snakes stay for the eggs and chicks. Then raptors show up hunting for both rodents and snakes.... control the rodents

so i ordered a lot of snake away and reusable mouse traps , hubby and i are gonna use hardwire cloth to reinforce the grow out pen and try to figure out how the snake got in the coop as well
