Hi. last night I saw a brown snake slithering through the yard. I grabed a shovel and pinned him down while my mom got a bat and then we killed him.I am wondering if anyone knows what type of snake this might be or if you know of a website I can look at. This is the second one I have spotted and my mom saw one and my dad saw one about 3 feet long. The 2 I found and the one my mom found are about a foot long. I can post pics of it if needed. Thanks for the help! Chickenman8

You know, some snakes can be beneficial.

Some kill rats. I wouldn't be so quick to dispatch one unless you know what it is first.

The ones we have killed so far have been black and can swim in water. The one we found yesterday was fast and it looks like a copperhead!

99% of the "copperheads" people kill in a panic are milk snakes.

Utterly harmless.

Google image search and see.

Or since yours is dead, perhaps he'd pose for a photo.

Lol. My dad took it into work to ask the people that he works with what they think it is. Later on I can post a pic. Sorry

Copperheads have a very distinctive pattern on them and are not solid brown.

The snake you saw was probably harmless - a brown rat snake or a hog nosed snake.

Let us know what you find out.

people these days killing snakes *sigh* hog noses have turned up nose like a hog did it?, I was a happy hog noses father (I had an eastern hog nose coolest snake ever ) but he got aggressive
