I would say garter snake too. We have lots of them and they are usually 2-3' long. I always catch them and put them in my woodpile!

The non-venomous snakes are beneficial. Some even eat other snakes. You need to learn the difference between the venomous and non venomous so you know if you are in danger or not. We have killed a 5 ft chicken snake because if was eating our eggs and terrorizing my chickadees and we have killed 3 copperheads. We have not come upon a rattler yet on our property, but I dread the day.

Ok well I thought my dad took it into his work but he left it home. I just ran out and took some pics of it.

Let me know what you think it is!

I'm not sure what it is but it is definitely NOT harmful; it has a slim head.

All venomnous snakes have a V shaped head.

We didnt know what it was then and we thought we should kill it cause it was like three feet from where my brother was playing.

Chickenman8 everyone has the right to handle pred problems the way they see fit. I would of killed it as well and in the UP of MI there is no poison snakes. Just thought you might want to know you are not alone in thinking kill it.

That said again it is how I would handle it, but I have no problem with anyone who handles it in a different way.

We were going out to toss some water balloons at each other! Then we saw him in the grass so we thought we should get rid of him so he doesnt bite us. He was soooooo fast when he was slithering through the grass!

I hate snakes and don't blame you for killing it. I know some snakes are beneficial and some folks believe they have a right to live and then turn around an kill a racoon or other predator. But for me the only good snake is a dead one. Poisonous or not it still hurts when being bitten.

FYI there are only 3 poisonous snakes in Ohio and only 1 without a rattle. Here is a link if interested.....

ETA: Our area is relatively safe as far as finding a poisonous snake concerned.

What part of NW Ohio are you in? I am near Holland in Swanton. It would be cool if you were close to me!
