SNAKE!!!(now a dead snake) Snake lovers, don't look.

I had a cabinet literally fall off the wall in my laundry room. While cleaning up the mess and glass, I was reaching into a corner that was shaded and didn't see a small snake laying there. About the time it registered with my mind what it was, it lightly bit me as I was moving my hand away. Well, needless to say, I started back pedaling out of the narrow space and crashed down (don't ever back pedal in large flip-flops!) and ended up knocking myself out for a few seconds (saw stars, etc...). The only thing that got me up so quick was the thought it was another water moccasin - they're the only snake that will actually chase you down! After my hubbie killed it, we took it to a snake man who said it was non-poisonous, but that all snake mouths are FULL of bacteria and a non-poisonous snake can do as much harm as a poisonous snake, especially if they draw blood (which this one didn't). We have lots of water moccasins/cottonmouths here and I don't take any chances with them!

Wow... I haven't seen a copperhead in about two-three years now.

the GREAT state of Tennesse, has passed a law , you cannot kill snakes, tadpoles or anything because it will disturb the ecological system of the state, Of course if I should happen to see a snake, he will probable be forwarded to snake heaven quickly enough that I won't have too see him.

I could be wrong but I think that it is against the law in Georgia as well.

Someone ran over a really long copperhead going into my neighborhood - from what I can tell it was at least 4-5' long! I do have to admit, they are a very pretty copper colour!

Thats a big ole copperhead. To date I have killed 3 copperheads(not that big), 17 corn snakes and 2 cotton mouths. That one you got would make beautiful belt. East texas seems to be over run with snake this year

Good on ya! I am eternally mystyfied by a lot of BYCrs willingness to kill ANYTHING that so much as looks at their precious chickens. That said I am very glad we don't have venomous snakes here. I might be tempted to relocat one to a wildlife management area. In 20 years on my 20 acres I have seen only garter and red bellied snakes. Garters are harmless and red bellied are even more harmless.

Who cares? I have a long list of people I would love to give a rattle snake to.
