Hey everyone! I got home and found a chick (about 10-12weeks old) hiding in some tall grass behind the coop and was limping. I thought maybe an adult rooster got a hold of it because it looked wet and found a laceration on the leg under the wing. When I locked up the adult chickens I went into the coop and there was a black snake wrapped around a duck egg. Could that possibly be what got ahold of my chick?
That being said, best things to keep snakes out? & should I do something for the ducks because they usually just lay eggs on the coop floor..?

Best thing to do is relocate the snake. (if non-venomous) I am assuming the snake in a non-venomous Black Snake . It can be a different one of course:idunno
Copy and paste,,,,
Black rat snake

Description
Pantherophis obsoletus – also known as the western rat snake, black rat snake, pilot black snake, or simply black snake – is a non-venomous species of Colubridae found in central North America. No subspecies are currently recognized. Its color variations include the Texas ratsnake. Wikipedia
These snakes are beneficial since they do consume rodents. You need to secure your run area with appropriate netting, and hardware cloth. There may be other snakes that will come eventually.
Yes that bite on your chick easily may have been done by that snake.
Not sure exactly which snake since don't know where you live.
Put your location into your profile for posters trying to give advice on things like predators, and climate related questions. Just general like city, or state or country is fine. There are members from around the GLOBE here.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and:welcome
