SNAKE!!!!

lady what exactly do you think a king snake can do to a kd? do you realize that they are the number one reptile pet for kids? even more better suited than lizards or turtles? also do you realize they eat snakes? so if anything having a thousand of them around would keep your kids safe? also there is no possible way one could ever hurt a kid if its life depended on it? they arent anacondas?

moving king snakes away from your house is putting your family at risk specially your kids you are risking them getting bitten by a real snake like a rattle snake the king snake goes near ur house for a reason to eat rattle snakes probably u move the king snake the rattle snakes will come. Or copper heads or corals. Removing snake eating snakes you are setting your kids up for trouble.

I have a black racer in my yard. Scares the crap out of me and the kids! It's always turning up whenever we go outside(every day) and it lives in a rock wall next to the chicken coop. I want to kill it but DH is saying it eats rats and it's a "good" snake. So since I won't kill it, snake stays. Until its a problem with eating eggs or chickens!
I have not seen any other "bad" snakes or mice/rats around . We have lots of lizards so I think it's eating them. As long as it leaves my chickens alone I'm trying to deal with it. Still scares the crap out of me though!

I love my black snakes I try to catch them in the woods and bring them to my yard. We have lots of copper heads and rattlers herein my area. I've not seen any since I've brought in black snakes from the woods lol my husband is terrified of snakes. I don't mind em at all.

racers are the weakest of them they cant constrict they eat other snakes rattle snakes and copper heads and a lot of lizards i dont think the racer will mess with eggs or chicks and a racer should be scared of an adult chicken racer is a lot like a king but a lot more wimpy even tho they can get long they really love to eat copperheads so if uh ave an issue with copperheads or rattlers bring racers around

If you have snakes in your yard chances you have mice that its keeping the population in control.

You are probably correct- we have beach rats around here and I haven't seen any in awhile. I live near the ocean. The beach rats are nasty creatures!
The chickens are in an enclosed run and it's up off of the ground, to prevent predators. Their food falls onto the ground and likely attracts rats. I've been thinking its better to have a snake than the rats!

I live in Utah and the other day I had to kill a gopher snake (I flet bad, was trying to get to out and I accidently stabbed it, so then thought it better to put it out of it's misery). Does anyone know if they will eat/kill chickens or eat the eggs? I've heard they suppossedly kill rattle snakes, and there is a second one lurking about where I found the first, so I'm trying to figure out if I should leave it be or relocate far away. It's about 4 feet long.

The lady at the feed store said this was the worst year for snakes that she has seen. She said a thick, wide band of sulfur around your coop willl keep the snakes away.
