Just a courtesy reminder folks to keep your eyes out for snakes. We just had to take our dog to the vet because he was barking on alert this afternoon and when we went to see what it was, we realized about the time he grabbed it and slung it to try and kill it that it was a copperhead. He went to the veterinarian immediately after being bit on the lower lip. Watch your pets, watch your flock, watch the kids, and WATCH YOUR FEET!

Very important to watch out especially this time of year. We’ve killed 3 rattlesnakes in the past 3 days here, the latest one of my hens alerted us to was hanging out near the chicks less than an hour ago.

Killed a rattlesnake sometime back and we’ve seen moccasins and more rattlers at times when we didn’t have anything to get them with. Big one across the path about a month ago so where we go outdoors the .410 goes. It’s bad enough having the poor pup get bit we dang sure don’t need someone in the family getting hurt.

We’ve been keeping the .410 by the door since the rattlers started showing up this year. They’re the only snakes we really have to worry about here. I think we’ve killed about 8 so far this summer.

In what is good news thus far, our dog went through fluids and meds overnight and is back home and feeling like himself. The great folks even bathed him and he’s doing awesome. Back for a re-check in about ten days with fingers crossed for no necrosis. Got him on meds twice a day to help. Hopefully it was a dry bite or low venom. Swelling is gone, just a bit puffy around the bite but otherwise looking good. Very thankful! Appreciate the vet’s honesty and the staff.
