I have a hen I got yesterday who I noticed had bubbles in her eyes yesterday after being here for about 3 hours. I also noticed I could hear her breathing and when I opened the pen and touched her she coughed/sneezed. She has her beak open most of the time. I thought it was from moving her. She was in a open top box in my van with ac for all of 10 minutes for the move. They walked around the run for about 30 minutes and found the coop. They went in and I have not seen them come out since. I was told to put poultry cell in the water and did. But the water is in the run so when I closed up the coop last night I put the water in with them but can't tell if they drank or not. I checked them this morning and she seems the same. I also put a little food in with them last night because it is also in the run. It looks like they may have ate a little. The only other thing I know they ate was a small handful of meal worms when they got here about 9:30am yesterday. Any suggestions on what else I can do to help. I looked for antibiotics and was told I need a prescription. Should I get them out of the coop and in the run? I live in South Louisiana and it is in the 80's.

Hi again, and a re-welcome to BYC!

Are the ones you just brought home your only chickens? If not, I'd keep your other ones away from these.

You can buy antibiotics online without a prescription.

Tylosin an antibiotic helpful with MG (Mycoplasma gallisepticum) /respiratory symptoms. Dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days. Here are some places to order it:

You can also use Tiagard (Tiamulin, Denagard) to treat mycoplasma respiratory disease, and get it here:

Mycoplasma or MG is a chronic respiratory disease. Symptoms of carriers can pop up after a time of stress, such as moving, molting, or severe weather. Here is some reading about it:

Hello and Thank you again. Yes they are my only chickens.

Oh, Thank you. I will look. I just saw a post about MG. It sure looks like that may be what they have. I sure hope not. How can I know for sure? If it is I don't want to bring any more chickens here.

Thank you again.

Thank you. That is a scary read. I guess I need to find a vet who will see a chicken to see for sure if it is MG or not. I don't want to spread it if it is so it will be no more chickens for me. And I don't think I can bring myself to cull them.
