Sneezing chicken with no symptoms

Awesome, Thank You so much for all of the help. I've had her nine days now with no change, symptoms or anything. I keep reading about a mite (elongated maybe) that could have possible come from the old shavings that gets into the sinuses. Has anyone heard of or experienced this. Still searching for the article, said something about putting a drop of something on the finger to transfer to chickens sinus. Article said it was real easy. We'll see.

My chickens are over a year old and if I feed them mash instead of pellets or crumbs and my chickens will sneeze, I think it is due to the dust from the feed.

I was using layer pellets and found out that I she was on chick starter crumbles. Switched over and she's eating like a champ. I'll let you know how things go.

That's really good to hear...sounds like she has a good appetite...then sneezing may be environmental...back to that dust from the dog run.

Hopefully she'll clear soon.

Yes, do let us know.

Ok, it's been 2 weeks and the chicken only sneezes every now and then. She's still eating and drinking great after switching to "her" brand. The Barnies are going crazy to see her, pacing the viewing fence line. She does the same thing. Read another article on here about vitamin C and cinnamon. Might try that as well. I've read some respiratory illnesses have a 3 week incubation period so I'll keep her separated for another week and see if any thing changes.:D

Hello again, it's week 3 and no changes. Still no symptoms or signs of a problem so I'm stumped. I've been using ACV in her water, 1 tbs and have uped it to 4. I tried electrolytes in the water last week, yogurt, cheese and a mix of cinnamon and crushed vitamin C in the feed that I saw on here and no changes. Found an article about VetRX, using a Q-tip you place a little on the nose and under the wings, anyone tried this. Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks again for everyone's help!

I am still interested to hear others' opinions. After three weeks I let my sneezers join the flock. It's been a few months, and they still sneeze. None of the other flock ever started sneezing.

I would have to agree that it could be infectious bronchitis, a virus that will run it's course over 3-4 weeks unless it is complicated by secondary infections (which should produce other symptoms.) I don't know if air sac mites is what you were thinking of, but it is treated with several drugs. Below is an except from Merck Manual about air sac mites, and a link from another source: http://beautyofbirds.com/airsackmites.html

Cytodites nudus is a small cosmopolitan mite occasionally noticed as white spots on the bronchi, lungs, air sacs, and abdominal organs of chickens, turkeys, pheasants, pigeons, canaries, and mallards. (Also see Air Sac Mites.) These mites are readily transmissible between birds through coughing. They are rarely found in commercial industries. The 14- to 21-day life cycle involves a larval and two nymphal stages. Infestation densities vary, and clinical signs range from none to weakness, weight loss, pneumonia, peritonitis, pulmonary edema, and death. Recommended treatments include ivermectin, a nearby dichlorvos pest strip (placed out of reach of the birds), topical moxidectin, or a pyrethrin/piperonyl butoxide spray.
