This morning as I was doing the usual chicken chores I noticed that I kept hearing a chicken sneezing. I didn't pay attention at first, as I know an occasional sneeze attack is not a big deal. However, the longer I was out there, I noticed that I was hearing an unusual number of sneezes. I think I know which bird it is, but every time I would stop and watch to see who it was, the sneezing would stop. I literally stood and watched for upwards of 10 mins at one point and no sneeze, turn my back to go about my business- sneeze. Agh!
It was not constant. There would be a sneeze or 2 at a time and long periods could be in between. I tried to dodge around and see if any of them had runny noses, but I had just fed them breakfast (soaked grains) so they all had faces covered in wet food.
Is it possible a chicken could just have allergies or some innocent reason to have an occasional, but suddenly regular, sneeze? What could this be? It has only happened just today.

I think it can be common to hear sneezing during feeding time or when giving scratch as a treat. Check out any dusty conditions, make sure your coop and run have good air circulation. If the same chicken is sneezing a lot, then you may want to read this link about common respiratory diseases such as infectious bronchitis, and look for any signs of nasal or eye drainage, noisy breathing or wheezing, or swelling around an eye or the face. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

Thanks! I will be sure and get a closer look at them. I know I am past due on cleaning out the coop really good. Plan do to a good clean of everything tomorrow. I do know that the dust and pollen have been pretty bad lately. I have no idea if that impacts chickens, but it's bad enough that I usually never have any allergies and lately I start coughing and sneezing just being outside a few mins. Does that even matter to chickens?
