Sneezing, crusty nares - vet can't find anything wrong!

Some feed is very dusty that's one of the reasons I decided to start making fermented feed, the main one how healthy it is. But Amykins try making her food with a bit of warm water and a teaspoon of ACV just to try and see if damping down the dust in the feed helps. sure doesn't hurt to try eliminating things. and what are the temps in her brooder?

Tried wetting the food yesterday and it didn't seem to make much a difference, but I'll try it with the ACV and see. Brooder temps are 85-90 (depending on the time of day) at the near end where the heat lamp is, and 75-80 at the far end. I'm also going to try to swap out the pad she's on and see if that does anything, I know some people have a silicone allergy, maybe ducks do, too?

How do you make fermented feed? I'm curious to try it, especially if you think it'll help!

I'd lower the temps in her brooder, at 8 days she can be comfortable at 75-80 if she isn't in a draft. does she mostly hang out at the cool end, and the heat could be doing something to the silicone maybe eliminate that, so now we eliminate things that could potential be causing this. Try some towels for a day.

Since you only have 1 little munchkin How much does she eat in a day. I'm thinking when i had my 2 gosling at 2 days old I was using a mixing bowl to make their ff in and covering with a towel and rubber band around the top to keep it in place. I would put in 4 cups feed and start with 2 cups warm water and 2-3 tab of ACV then mix it into the feed stir it real good and cover and let sit over night, what you don't use in a day can sit and ferment since you have ACV in it it won't mold. If in 33-4 hrs the feed is too runny just add a bit of feed to it. I just played around with it till i got it where I was happy with it you want it to be mixed cornbread consistency. I feed it to 33 so it's a bit different than feeding to 1 or 2. I'll get you the link about it.

Ok, I'll lower it for sure - she DOES tend to sleep in either the warm end or the cool end though. I'll put a handwarmer in there and see what she does with it.

As for the food, the ACV is a huge hit! She emtied her entire food bowl in just a few hours, that's a first! I think she really enjoys the sour taste. :p

That's great and if it's the dusty feed then we should know in a day or 2 if it isn't then she'll be eating good anyway. I just can't imagine this is any kind of illness if she is eating good. so on with the eliminating . How is she today anyway?

UPDATE: Yesterday, Wobs was sneezing and shaking her head almost constantly, only stopping when she fell asleep. As of right now I've only seen her have two sneezing fits, one at 8:00 AM, one just a minute ago. Time will tell if it's getting better or if this is just a brief respite.

Wonderful news. lets hope whatever is causing it has been eliminated.

I hope so...if it was just food dust, wouldn't it have stopped instantly when I mixed water in it? Either way we may still wind up going to the vet to get that culture done. Bleh. Poor ducky!

Not necessarily if there is dust in her respiratory system may take a few days. Where would the fungus be comes from at her age? Did vet give any ideas?

Well I don't know, but lets hope it's something simple. so you don't have to put her through more or spend money you don't have. You mean she got into the spoiled cat food?
