I have a OE Millie Fleur hen who started to sneeze few days ago. She sneezes with a high pitch noise. I put some VetRx on her following the instructions on the bottle, but she is still sneezing. The hen is eating good, no running eyes/nose, no sick appearance, no unusual poo. So what can it be?
I bought some Duramycin-10 soluble powder but I have not use it yet. The antibiotic has to be put in water witch makes more difficult to treat this chicken since she is not isolated from the rest of my flock.
What can I do for her?
Thank you.

I believe it's only sneezing, no coughing. It's kind of hard to tell what the sound she makes really is. If that is some sort of worm should I see something in her poo?

No, you won't see it in their poo. It's a worm that gets in their lungs, travels up to their throat, and makes them cough, sneeze, opeen mouth breathe. It's really hard to see them, but they ARE fatal, as they suffocate as the worm gets bigger. I had one hen die from that 'til I figured out what was going on. I had another one get them, but I caught that one in time. I felt it in her throat.

I just recorded this video. You can hear her sneeze at the beginning of the tape. She does that once every 5-10 minutes.

OMG ~ I've been sick the last couple of days and the kids and DH have been tending to the flock. I managed to go out there today and feed them some scraps and then I picked some grass and weeds to give them for some greens. They loved it of course, but I was hearing this exact same noise from some of them. I couldn't put my finger on which one it was coming from (I have 22 in the flock), but I think it was coming from 2-3 of them and I thought it was the white leghorns that were doing it.

I recently got rid of 2 roosters ( I had 8) and since then, they have been kind of re-configureing the pecking order. I just thought this was some sort of a dominance thing or a growl of some sort. I was going to post up about this tomorrow if it continued. Now I'm worried I might loose some chickens.

Arianna ~ it is the exact same noise/hickup that your hen is doing. Sounds more like a hickup to me than a sneeze.

So, how do we treat it? What is it? Where do we get the meds? Do we treat the whole flock? Should we isolate? Can we treat the dirt/run?

HELP!!!!

Poor thing, looks like she has asthma!

I have a hen that sounds like your does, I just figured it was a sneeze, she's been that way for a while. She does not open mouth breath at all, and is otherwise healthy....I'll be interested to see what others say.
