I seriously can’t find that middle hole in one hens throat, I don’t understand why I can’t see it at all. I know not to get anything in that. But my goodness it’s freaking me out. So I’m guessing I should treat the rooster since it’s contagious? He isn’t showing symptoms

Hi @Eggcessive! My girls are doing much better! I started this last Sunday should I stop treatment this Sunday? So since it was contagious, should I medicate the rooster as well you think? He hasn’t showed symptoms, I’m just worried if he ends up getting it he’ll pass it to them again? I’ve been medicating them twice daily....thanks!

Tylan is given for 5 days total. Do some reading about mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG.) We don’t know for sure what your chickens have, but if it responds to Tylan it may well be. MG is a chronic respiratory disease, and you should realize that your flock may be carriers for life. The rooster may have good immunity, and is not getting sick because he has fought off the illness. He won’t infect them if he gets sick, because the disease is already there. They may have some immunity to it in the future, but some may get sick again someday if they are stressed. That could be during a molt or during a very cold winter. Many backyard flocks are positive for MG, since it can be spread by birds. There is one link in post 18 about the common diseases, and here are 2 more about MG:

Oh wow, I was afraid of it being that. I’m having terrible luck, my first rooster passed of what I suspected was mareks. Now this! I go above and beyond to keep their areas clean and them with good supplements. Bad luck I suppose. He is really young so I guess his immune system is better.
