My Dad loves to show people his "Polish trailer!" He asks them if they've ever seen one and then he leads them around objects (table, couch, chair, table, etc.) all while glancing back to make sure they are following! It has taken some of them quite a while to catch on!
The sad part is...I actually GOT one!!!
It's a little brown bird that hangs out in the shallow water...I'm no fool
Here's a quote...
A snipe is any of nearly 20 wading bird species in three genera in the family Scolopacidae. They are characterized by a very long, slender bill and cryptic plumage. The Gallinago snipes have a nearly worldwide distribution, the Lymnocryptes Jack Snipe is restricted to Asia and Europe and the Coenocorypha snipes are found only in New Zealand. The three species of painted snipe are not closely related to the typical snipes, and are placed in their own family, the Rostratulidae.
Avid snipe hunters can be best found by writing 'turn over' on both sides of a paper and placing it in a common area. If they turn it over more than once you have a snipe hunting candidate.
I love it when people are really serious about catching one and they truly believe they are going to get a snipe!!!!!! And they will pay close attention and really beleive standing on one leg uner a big hickory tree while holding your flashlight to make circles with the light while whistling really high pitched for them will catch a snipe in a sack!
I love it!
We have plans to do this to my dds spend the night company this year!!!!
Thank you..... but it is real......? I don't know what or who to believe on this thread any more........I am waiting for everyone to jump out of my cupboards shouting SNIPE!!!! ......
LOL Englishchick ~ There is a such bird as mentioned/posted called a snipe but the snipe hunting we are referring to is a tradition sort of...a fake hunt.....a wild goose chase...LOL
Too bad you are in the UK too, you would've been perfect to take on a snipe hunt
