Snow Chickens - No Heat Required

Thanks for all the comments!

To answer a few questions -

When it snows, I use a wide shop type broom to push up on the tarp to bump the snow off - it works good if you keep up with it.

The pen itself is one of those Costco canvas covered metal "sheds". The canvas rotted away a few years ago, so I just bought a couple tarps. One tarp stays on all year to keep the rain out of half of the pen, and two are used in the winter for full coverage. I have bird netting on the part that has no canvas in the summer.

I leave the snow on the sides to help with the wind which can get up to 50 - 60 MPH range and higher at times.

The new coop and pen will be all wooden, and have a steeply pitched flat roof. I want to get away from canvas, as it is not reliable as it gets old - and the weight of wet snow can cause the whole structure to collapse.

The sun panel will be on the new coop, and the new coop will be painted some color to blend in with the trees in the background.

Anyway, my 5 chickens seem to like the setup, as they are laying 30 - 33 eggs a week.
